Holly and I welcome Carlo De La Cruz back into the fold of the NewEthic Team in Oakland! Carlo is a long time yoga practitioner, animal lover, and overall nice guy who, amazingly, never seems to get any older! We will be hosting the first of a three week yoga series on hip mobility as it relates specifically to squats as well as the activation of the rest of the body to create stronger, deeper, tighter, lifts. This will include ques for the core, back, and shoulders in relation to hip movement as well as ankle mobility. Carlo’s warm but systematic approach will lead to better, pain free, movement and new personal records under the bar! If you are in the Bay Area, we would love for you to join in!

After four years, PlantFit has decided to evolve into NewEthic. We still stand for everything that built the PlantFit name, but for various reasons we have decided to kick off 2016 as NewEthic Strength & Conditioning. This could mean something different for each of us. For some, it’s a representation of a new way of living that includes mindfulness in all parts of life, using functional fitness to fuel your drive. For others it can mean creating a new ethic in fitness and in health. One that doesn’t create an elite or disordered view, one that can hold space for everyone who’s down to get hella strong and happy in their skin.

The Challenges are for who can make the most improvement in five weeks in:
Strength – Set your (P)ersonal (R)ecord for a 1 Rep Max Weight of Deadlift and Push Press (15 minutes to work up to your heaviest lift for Push Press, then a short break. Then 15 minutes to work up to your heaviest lift for Deadlift.)
Conditioning – PR for Max Reps of Back Squats at 75% Body Weight, Unbroken (can not set the bar down) and 5 minute AMRAP (as many reps as possible) of: 500 meter Row, AMRAP Burpees to 6″ Target with remainder of time.

All who sign up will be assigned to one of two teams. Winning Team Donates Proceeds to Proyecto Huella: a grassroots movement towards supporting and generating vital conservation for sea turtles and social justice. Here is Tim with a baby sea turtle that P.H. saved from poachers and released.
The one person with the most progress from either team wins a mystery basket of awesome goodies and, of course, bragging rights!
On Nov 18th you will receive an email introduction. This will explain details such as which group and coach (Either Ed or Holly) you’ll be with, instructions for adding to the team Facebook group, what times/dates are available for team group workouts and an opportunity to schedule 1 on 1 training, as well as the test for your starting point.
If you’re new to PlantFit, don’t worry! We will schedule time for you to come in and learn the movements before your test, and remember: this challenge is about how much progress you can make on either your workout times, reps or amount of weight lifted rather than who can lift the most total weight so don’t worry about where you start.
To participate, you must be able to come to PlantFit (606 E. 11th St., Oakland, CA, 94606) for at least your start and finish tests. Sorry far away people!
