First Annual NewEthic Fall Classic

This meet is for those interested in competing who want to test it out for the first time! There is no official federation, but we will still use standards in each sport. There will be two categories: Rhinos and Unicorns. Rhino is the category for those who are larger and/or more advanced athletes. Unicorns are more suitable to smaller and/or less experienced athletes. Singlets are not required but encouraged. The fee to compete is $20 and you can sign up HERE. This competition is for those who have never competed before in either sport. Families, fur babies, and friends are welcome to attend, cheer and get pumped! Entrance fee is $5 at the door. Please note that dogs and children must be able to be restrained and quiet for the safety and focus of the athletes, if needed.

For Athletes:
Weigh in will be at 8am for all athletes at NewEthic. Please arrive early. If weight is triggering, you’re welcome to weigh in backwards so you don’t see the number. Totals will be determined according to percent of bodyweight. Olympic Lifting starts at 9am and will go prior to Powerlifting. Please determine your opening weights before 9am (snatch and clean and jerk for Olympic Weightlifting, and Squat, Bench, and Deadlift for Powerlifting) and give them to the judges. Snatch is first, you’ll get three attempts, then C&J will follow, with three attempts of each movement. There will be a “Warm Up” area inside the gym for all, and we can help decide your weights and how to warm up before the event, just ask! Powerlifting will begin immediately after Olympic has finished, beginning with Squat, which will have three attempts, then Bench and Deadlift the same. Please also have your starting weight to the judges at 9 am when the event opens. There will be awards for First, Second, and Third in each category of Powerlifting and Olympic Lifting, and there will be a short ceremony at the end where awards are given.

We will have three judges, each have a “light”, red “lights” indicate a bad lift, white indicate good, and a majority of either determine if you get the lift or not. Please do not question the judges. Athletes get 1 minute on the platform for each lift, and will get at least 2 minutes between lifts, regardless of how many athletes are between them. This means that if you are competing against only one athlete, we will pause so you have time to recover.

Alex20ParzychSnatch/C&J: Elbows must be locked out when feet hit ground, press outs will get reds. Arms must stay fully locked out for entire time bar is in play. On the way back down, you must follow the bar with your arms to your shoulders before letting it drop. Athlete will have 1 minute to perform entire lift, once on the platform then, once the lift is complete, must wait for the “down” signal from the judge to release the bar from the overhead position. Note: there is no requirement regarding whether you “power” the clean or snatch as long as standards of the upper body are met.

Squat: There are two cues – once you unrack, wait for the “squat” cue, you must go below parallel then stand to complete hip lock out, then wait for the “rack” cue to bring the bar back in.

squat-depthBench: There are three cues – once you unrack, wait for the “start” cue, you must pause at the chest and wait for the “press” cue, then once elbows are locked out wait at the top for the “rack” cue.

Deadlift: The one cue here is after lock out is completed, you will hear the “down” cue to set the bar down. You must achieve full lock out at the top, hips and knees, shoulders must be behind the bar, for a good lift.

Please do not rush, if you do not adhere to the cues you’ll miss the lift and it sucks.
